I have a 2014 Chevy Equinox 2.4L engine.
While I'm driving, at around 1500 RPM, the temp of the car starts to go up. It will eventually overheat. If I just rev the engine to between 3000 - 4000 the temp will immediately start to go down. I've replaced the Water Pump, Thermostat, and Temp Sensor. I just finished replacing the Water Pump on 7/4/2022. The Pump is attached to the Timing chain.
The car still heats up and the fix is still the same. When I added the fluid back in I left the cap off and ran it for around 30-45 minutes. The temp in the car went up and back down. Never really go over half. I didn't see any bubbles come out, so I put the cap back on and test drove it. It would "loose" water, but I let it cool and added more fluid back in. I've added a total of about 2 gal. The normal is approx. 2.25 gal.
I went to shop and they said that the Thermostat is the issue. I'm looking for the fix to this problem.
Another issue I'm having is when I accelerate, it doesn't just jump into action. It seems like it bogs down, a lot of base coming from the engine, and slowly accelerates. Are these issues connected?
Clarification: What is the mileage?
118,000
Also, I've not serviced the Transmission, didn't think about it till I was told it was too late. I'm the original owner.
I would change the temperature sending unit. It seems to be acting up.
That's what I thought too, but I replaced it and it fixed for a little while then back to overheating.
I hope you used the OEM sensor. If not, try again with OEM.
Get a compression test to hopefully rule out a blown head gasket.
I'll look into getting this done. Is this the blue liquid that turns yellow with combustion gasses?
Yes, that's the one.
Check your radiator for clogs. At operating temperature there should be no cold spots. (This can be checked with an infrared thermometer.)
Is your engine bogging down or is it the transmission slipping? (If the latter your engine RPMs will go up without the vehicle accelerating.) If you blew a head gasket due to overheating that could cause the engine to lack power.
Congrats for hitting 7,000 posts.
Ok, thanks y'all.
I'll check for the blown head gasket.
When I accelerate the RPMs don't go up till the bogging stops. It usually takes a bit before this happens though.
My next thing was to fix the radiator, but if the head gasket is blown, then I guess I would address that or get rid of the car.
Would fixing the head gasket be too time consuming for this car? In your opinion.
