Hey Scotty. I got a problem and every mechanic I talk to say they have no idea what’s going on and have never heard of it before. Maybe you have heard of it? So I got a 2017 Camaro 2.0 and a couple months back it blowing out heavy white smoke and I was losing coolant. So I figured it was a blown head gasket but there was no coolant in the oil. I got the head gasket replaced and there were no cracks in the heads and it ran fine until coolant was added and it started smoking again. In the process they found there was a crack in my turbo and replaced the turbo hoping maybe that was the issue but it wasn’t. We later found out that I had a crack in the exhaust manifold so that was replaced. It ran fine until coolant was added and it started smoking again. They said they have no clue what it is now. I try to add coolant to the reservoir but the car just drinks it and I have no clue where the coolant is going. There are no visible leaks under the car. The car doesn’t hold coolant at all. Have you ever heard of that before? Or have any suggestions about it?
First of all, find better mechanics - this is quite an obvious issue.
As far as the German built nightmare, the "beloved" Opel A-series.
The cooling system on these is 'peak' GM cheap and Opel over engineered -
Pressure test the cooling system, also look at the expansion tank, and the plastic piece on top of the thermostat.
(If I remember A-series Opels have it there, but generally the cooling systems in these have a ton of tubes and plastics)
The heater core on these is known to leak, there are gaskets that leak, many things can be the issue.
But being an Opel turbocharged engine, and knowing how well built it is,
If it passes the pressure test, being pretty much an Opel A20NFT - you'll need to perform a head gasket TEST.
And tell us the results, these engines have a thing for cracking the cylinder head.
I wonder is the milage in the 60k-90k range?
If it's not leaking coolant, it's burning coolant. As it is burning coolant, the head gasket(s) is compromised. No other choices with the symptoms you describe.
I would assume they just did a crappy job on the head gasket and perhaps the head itself was warped somewhat and it will never seal, right
