I have a 2009 Corolla an and about 3 months ago it started to do a loud grinding like sound when starting cold. It does it for less than a second and stops… it’s very annoying and I want to invest on fixing it. What do you think? Some say it’s the Vvti sensor others says the oil change might ha damage the inside. There is no signs of metal debris in the oil. No issue on the engine it self. But simply annoying when cold start

If it makes the noise while cranking check to see if your starter's Bendix drive is getting chewed up.
