Engine warmed up or cold?
Engine running or off?
Should it show all way up on H or somewhere between H and L?
Obviously, car has to be parked on even ground. ✅

it should say in your owner's manual

Drain the oil from a warm engine, check it when it's warm, and add up to high mark when warm.
Anywhere between H & L is safe for operation.
Check the oil with the engine off
