Crossclimate 2 tires affecting gas mileage

2017 Civic, manual transmission, 48,000 miles

In August 2024, I replaced my orginal tires (Hankook Kinergy) with Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires. I originally wanted to get Michelin Defender 2 tires, but would have had to wait for at least 2 months.  The local tire company recommended the Crossclimate tires which were available.  So I went with the Crossclimate tires, but I feel like these tires run like "truck tires"; they are loud and heavy.  Not to mention, I feel like I'm having to refuel more often; one a week instead of every 2 weeks.

Has anyone had similar experiences with these tires?  Appreciate any feedback.

I don't know which Kinergy tires you're referring to. Hankook seems to have at least 6 different models.

But your Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires are certified for "severe service". That's the emblem with the mountain+snowflake.

As the name implies, these tires are designed for severe conditions and the rubber compound , construction and tread pattern used will be suited for that purpose, so it's no surprise they're louder and have higher rolling resistance. But I doubt they're causing you to burn twice as much fuel. That will be caused by something else. So make sure the tires are properly inflated, and have your vehicle analyzed by a diagnostic scanner. I would also get some hard numbers . Keep track of the exact amount of fuel you're putting in versus the miles you drive to get an accurate MPG number and then compare that to the EPA rating.
