Car won't start

Hi there,

I hope you are having a great day.

My car is a 2009 corolla. 2 days ago while I was driving on the highway at night, the check engine light came on, engine temperature reached "H" on the gauge. So I stopped for 30 mins for the engine to cool down some and continued to drive once it reached "H" temperature i stopped again and wait then drove , did this twice and got back home. The next day I found the coolant overflow tank was empty, there was a hose connected to the radiator pipe that broke off. when I head to a car shop the next morning, i noticed it was A LITTLE hard to start, I had to try twice, in the past always a smooth process on first try. I went to a car shop. fixed the broke off hose and also changed brake pads and CV axle. then i noticed the car was hard to start, i had to try a few times, but once the car ran a little while and it was warm, i shut it down and started it again, it was smooth. But once i let the car sit for some time, it is hard to start. Now, it won't start at all.  I don't know if it was the cause or just coincidence, after I left the car shop I bought more coolant (toyota coolant from dealer) topped the radiator off (i only brought maybe 0.75 gallon with me to the car shop). Then i noticed it was very hard to start. that morning, I could start the car on 2nd try, after i left the car shop and put more coolant in the radiator, it was significantly harder to start. eventually, it doesn't start at all.  At one point, the check engine light was flashing, then later, it stayed on.

I posted 2 videos.  1 shows the RPM gauge moves, the other it doesn't.

the check engine light is on but i don't have a scanner.  the engine oil is not “milky", no black or white smoke coming out of the exhaustion pipe.  The RPM gauge "sometimes" moves but sometimes didn't move when the engine cranked but didn't start. the head light and dashboard light came on when i turn the key. The battery should be good, new battery. The car shop rinsed the electrodes with water to remove "rusts" and put some grease around the electrodes.

What can I do now to fix this?

Thank you very much

Alan

Overheating multiple times will very frequently blow head gaskets, so you should check for a blown gasket. If the gasket is shot you need to replace it and also check the cylinder head for warpage - or replace the engine.

Also, for information on diagnosing a no-start condition see the troubleshooting section of the FAQ.
