Hey everyone, I’m helping my friend buy his first cars with a budget of 5,000 miles. I know of all the good cars such as civics, corollas, Camry, etc but what about a crown Vic? I was researching crown vics as I know they are good cars but found them to have a lot of idle hours. How many idle hours from an old police Vic is too many?
here’s an example with 5,000 idle hours and low mileage.

One hour of idle time = 25 to 30 miles of drive time.
It's all in the maintenance, I think people are more scared of idle hours than they should be cause they don't understand it too well, it doesn't wear the engine down as much as actually putting it in use for that many hours per-say. I would consider 5k hours and 89k miles to be pretty low and the subreddit on reddit would probably agree. If it checks out and you don't have any issues cause some cop cars are driven pretty aggressively lol then I think it's a good enough deal. Since it's a cop car, you can also see if you can look into it's maintainence record.
You can find nice, low mileage Grand Marquis for $5,000 without the abuse some of the police Crown Vics have taken.
