Scotty, I have a 2007 Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor, with 225k miles. Now I want to make my hot rod family car out of it. My options are, I can go to a company ATDR, who specializes in aftermarket performance parts for my car, and using my stock 4.6L Modular 2 valve V-8 with upgraded heads, pistons, crank, and throttle body. My other option, is to get a wrecked Coyote 5.0 Mustang, and gut that car, for the engine, trans, and electronics. Now either way, I want to convert my car to manual trans, just because I love the chassis, but also love to shift gears myself. Which direction would you go in this?
Calling up the expert @Mod_Man
@DayWalker Thank you sir! 🙂
I would go with the built 4.6L. The Coyote would make more power but you said family car. The 4.6L is, without question, more reliable. Just look how far it has run stock under severe conditions.
Converting to the six speed is going to suck. It can be done, but it is difficult and looks odd inside the car. I dropped the 4L60E auto out of my 98 Camaro to swap a T-56 Viper spec transmission in, so I know how much goes into a swap. That said, I can appreciate why you want to do it. If I may offer some advice: don't use an MT-82. They are junk. I'd go with a T-56 if I were you.
Thanks a ton, that helps, for the trans, I was looking at going more for a 5 speed.
You're very welcome! And if you want to stick to a 5-speed (nothing wrong with that), the T-45 unit is an excellent choice.
I go atdr
Thanks Scotty
