Cruise control stopped working on 2008 Silverado 2500. Easy cheap DIY fix or no?

The first thing I would do is check my brake lights, make sure they are working, and also that they are not staying on all the time. The Cruise control is linked to the brake lights, so if something goes wrong with them, is can cause the cruise to not engage.
