Want to buy a new malibu

My 2007  saturn is so rusted out underneath{michigan}. Cannot descripe  how rusted out it is. Only one  hiccup{timing chain, fixed before it broke} in all these years. I'm thinking about  getting a new Malibu to replace it. Is the Malibu{2.0} a car  worth buying? A car is just transportation to me  and I don't like trouble.

The 2016-2019 models have the 2.0 turbocharged engine. After that those years the Malibu got replaced with a 1.5 I4 and a CVT.

I have the 1.5 I4 as a rental and here's my thoughts: It's OK to drive if you're in a pinch but keeping it long term is another story.

If you like the style of the newer Malibu, lease one.

Don't waste your money on this poorly made disposable car.

They don't make Malibus anymore, so that tells you a lot. Malibus aren't what they used to be. At all. Honda still makes sedans, despite their decline, because they make good cars. GM is after SUVs, now, and most of those are crappy made, too.

Here's some examples of Malibu "quality" - you be the judge:

It's a pretty crapulent vehicle, and would need significant quality improvements to even qualify as mediocre.
