I'm an 80-year-old man who LOVES your videos, Scotty!
My 2004 Cadillac Seville (Northstar engine) has 97,000 miles. The SERVICE ENGINE SOON alert started blinking. I pulled off the road and used my code reader which indicated it was due to "Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected." Sorry, but I failed to write down the code number and it's not currently available as it soon stopped blinking and is no longer displayed.
Per an online search I see there are a number of things that could be the problem. Seems like an ideal opportunity for an unscrupulous mechanic to rip me off.
What's the best way to diagnose the problem and what do you think is the most likely cause?
Thanks, Scotty!
Bill
Check the simple stuff first - spark plugs and coils. (If you have individual coils swap with another cylinder and see if the misfire travels with the coil.) Vacuum leak is also a common problem.
Thanks, Chuck!
