Help! Hey Scotty, I have a 97 Tacoma with 268,000 miles. it has a 2.4 Liter engine with a Manual transmission. I paid $500 for it back in 2016. It has no a/c (compressor is stuck) and the interior is beat up, but it ran. It was my weekend vehicle till the pandemic hit. Needless to say it sat a good six months or more. The other day it popped the Code P0302. I changed the plugs, cables, distributor cap and rotor. Still has fault. Maybe bad fuel? Maybe bad injectors? Should I change the fuel filter? The person who I bought it from gave me no maintenance records. My cousin recommended throwing some liquid injector cleaner down the gas tank and call it a day. Should I sell it for $1,000 or put a few hundred into it to get it back into better shape(i.e. new valve cover gasket, new fuel filter, new brake pads, new passenger side seat belt, radiator flush, new exhaust manifold gasket set$$$)? It ran fine up until it popped the fault. I wanted your opinion first. Thank you for your time.

Since you only bought it for $500, I don’t think it’s wise to carry out all that work before you fix the misfire.

Start simple, watch Scotty’s video https://youtu.be/r9zNnAuPY2U and take it from there.

It could very well be a clogged injector since the car hasn’t run much during the pandemic.
