2001 Honda accord sedan. Sat 10 years in driveway. 140,000 km. Great shape. Changed: fuel pump, drained tank added prem fuel, fuel reg, battery, plugs/wires, distr/rotor/coil/4 belts, all fluids. Initially C3 misfire. Added soap stuff. Cleared. Got 1800 km then all 4C's misfire. Then just 1 and 2. P301 etc. Compression 220 per C, injectors /ERG valve/pipe cleaned. Mech thinks rad fluid leak into C 1/2. What next? How do i know what kind of leak and if head gasket is it or is it more then what
Have your guy do a combustion gas test at the radiator/coolant reservoir (if the radiator doesn't have a cap) to check for a tiny head gasket leak (hold the engine at high rpms to detect a tiny leak).
If that passes have him do a cylinder leak down test .
Thanks very much. He’s already told me the rad lost 411 ml of fluid. What if the cylinder leak down test passes.
The compression test was 220 psi in each of the 4 cylinders.
Thank you
Hi, cylinder leak down test done. He says it passed. Concerned it could be a broken crankshaft.

Hi, combustion gas test done. No leaks. All electrical/air/fuel systems checked. Valve cover pulled. No issues with springs etc. going to pull oil pan and check for shavings or broken/cracked crankshaft.
Three mechanics , one from Honda dealer, all with 30 plus yrs, all stumped. All cylinders misfiring and rough on startup but gets better when engine gets hot. Not sure what to do.
Suggestions welcomed. Please.
cut oil filter in half and found metal shavings
metal shavings usually indicate a failed engine
Well it's sad so long but the compression is fine so the engine's fine. You may need to either have the fuel injector's pressure cleaned or replaced for my experience
Thank you very much. The mechanic says he has cleaned the injectors and says the rad has list 411 ml of fluid. He’s warning about cylinder damage or a cracked block. Not sure if should just write off the car. Any other tests I can do because the car was babied before we parked it and it drove like a dream for 1800 km before this problem. Thank you
Hello Scotty and it mountain man : hoping you might have a thought. My mechanic says he’s run all the tests and can’t identify reason for misfire.. he wants to take engine apart or refer to a Honda dealer. Concerned about a dull engine noise. Help?
Seem to have found the problem : metal shavings - cut oil filter in half and found metal shavings. Pulled oil pan to see extent of damage. Now told it’s “oil etching” and likely the engine needs to be replaced. Sad really, after being in the shop for 3 weeks, having a mechanic direct restart after 10 yrs and spending alot of $ investigating - all it took was pulling the oil filter and pan.
Oil pan pulled. No shavings. Pan fully cleaned. All 4 injectors replaced. ERG value and piping cleaned. ECM checked. $1800 bill.
Car just back after a month with mechanic. I got 120 kilometres out of it and now I have a P1399 again.
Your thoughts would be appreciated very much. Anyone. Thank you.
