2011 Honda CR-V LX 2WD. 68k miles. I’m getting a grinding noise sometimes on startup, so based on my search that’s the solenoid going out so it’s time for a new one soon. From rockauto, my options are:
Remanufactured (w/o core fees):
ACDelco $120 (cheapest of the reman that’s a brand I’ve heard of, but questionable bc GM)
Bosch 152 (cheaper than denso but still a good brand)
Denso 180 (not OEM but they are a large Japanese OE supplier)
Some other cheaper remans of lesser known brands as low as $34, don’t think I would be comfortable with those unless any of you have had good experiences with them:

Brand new (no core fee):
Remy $95 (also found this brand on BAP-geon which Scotty has recommended in the past)
WAI Global $156
BBB Industries $162
Some other options:
Brand new Honda Genuine (Mitsuba) $252 (no core fee) on eBay (probably even more than that from dealer)
1aAuto I’ve heard great things but not sure about TRQ ($118 brand new):

New is better than reman within the same brand obviously, but in my case, should I go with a reman of a more well known brand, or should I go for a cheaper brand new one from a lesser known brand? Or should I cough up the 252 bucks and get a brand new OEM? If I get reman should I even bother considering ACDelco? If not, Bosch or Denso? Does anyone have any experience with the cheaper brands, either brand new or reman? Or maybe if any of you can find me a brand new Denso or Bosch for less than OEM that’d be great. This is my mom’s car and she doesn’t drive much but I really want to give her peace of mind that it’ll last a long time.
I find the Bosch to be perfectly fine
I just watched your new video on your Matrix starter, and you got the ultima from oreilly’s with the lifetime guarantee. Did you get reman or brand new? The warranty on the Bosch reman is only 24 months but if the ultima goes out faster then I have to change it again. I’m guessing the ultima isn’t going to last as long as the Bosch.
I did a bunch of research before buying an alternator for my matrix, the oem was not available. Remy was cheap, like $120 but it seems to have a good reputation, and has been around for a long time. Never seen much bad about them, but many customers say they are repeat, happy, customers.
So far my alternator has been working fine for over a year. I bought another for my Pontiac Vibe.
Looking at the reviews of new remy starters, they seem to be very good, especially for the price.
I would only buy new, or take it to a local starter rebuilder if you have one around.
For my 1999 Accord, I got a Denso Remanufactured, and it is still going strong 10+ years later. Denso is usually the OEM supplier for Honda starters, TMK.
For my car the oem is actually mitsuba, as stated above. But either way, can’t go wrong with a denso. They’re a spin-off of Toyota which still owns like 50%
