Should I import a car

Hi,

My mother in law recently moved from her home country Haiti to NYC.

Over there in Haiti she has a 2009 Daihatsu Terios 4WD manual transmission with only 20k miles on it. It looks like a Rav4. She is the original owner and has taken care of it.

I first advised her to sell the car in Haiti and buy a used Corolla here in NYC but given the economic situation over there nobody can afford to buy the used Terios for 5-6k$.  Therefore she is neither driving it, nor can't sell it and needs a car here.

Do you think it's a good idea to bring the car to NYC for roughly 3k$ transport and import fee?

I know Daihatsu left the US a long time ago. Car is in great shape and she will probably drive 2-3k miles a year here.

Thanks in advance

Stan

No. Since it is less than 25 years old the federal government will impound and destroy that vehicle.
