Hey scotty, I have a 2013 Kia Optima LX with 155,000 Mi on it, automatic.. The engine blew about 10,000 Mi ago and the dealership replaced it for free, not sure if they put a junkyard engine in it or an actual new engine like they said. It's running decent so far but now the steering wheel has a clunk in it and I'm almost positive it's the flex coupler that goes bad over time. They want $800 at the dealership to change out that $5 part and I'm wondering if I should just learn how to do it myself or find a mom and pop mechanic shop to see if they can do it for cheaper. I was looking to see if you had any videos on the Kia Optima Flex coupler but I wasn't seeing anything what are your thoughts
Stay away from the dealer for non-warranty work and find a good independent mechanic to do maintenance and repairs. (Also avoid chain shops like Pep Boys, Firestone, Midas, etc.)
Is that hydraulic or electrical assist power steering? Is there a power steering pump?
The rockauto.com database lists no hydraulic parts so looks like it has electrical power steering. They list the steering coupler at a little over $7 (Dorman aftermarket).
