I have an 08 Lexus GS350. I saw your piece about not using the ODB2 port to power a dashcam and was wondering if installing it to the fuse box would be ok.

In my '07 ES350, I use my cigarette lighter wires (positive & negative) to power my dash cam, Garmin and USB cable to charge my phone. Lighter cables de-engergize when you shut the engine off so no issue running the battery down. The car has a button start like yours.

Scotty recommends powering aftermarket accessories with their own fused circuit directly connected to the battery rather than increasing the load on an existing circuit. Or, plug it into the cigarette lighter.

if you've got an auxiliary stud, yes if you add an inline fuse, but how are you going to make sure the cam doesn't run down your battery?
