I have a 1999 Toyota Camry with a 2.2L i4 auto and 135k miles on it. About a few months ago I took it to the mechanic due to steam coming out of the tailpipe excessively. He said it was a head gasket failure and coolant were leaking into all 4 cylinders but cylinder 2 was the worst. A bit later the issue got worse, so I parked it in my driveway. Fast forward 2 months of it sitting, I went to start it (I charged the battery), but the engine was seized. I kept trying and even gave it a 55 (or 90 I forgot) watt jump and that got it to spin but no startup. After many attempts and removing the spark plugs multiple times, (gasoline only came out of cylinders 2 and 3, 1 and 4 were dead) I even tried the starter fluid stuff at PepBoys and that put some life into it, but just cylinders 2 and 3. The engine still would not start. Replaced it with a 2024 Honda CR-V hybrid. I want to know what is wrong with the Camry (as it is taking up space in my driveway) and I don't want to get rid of it. (engine and entire car were taken exceptionally loving care of so it is not due to a lack of service)
The Camry's engine is clearly shot, probably damaged by the head gasket failure. Repair would far exceed the value of the vehicle. Getting 25 years service out of a car is pretty good.
