Hey Everyone!
Looking to buy a diagnostic scan tool/coder in the next while. Seen Scotty using the Autel and from reviews online it seems the best. I was looking at the MK808TS and seems to be ideal apart from what I think it may not allow for coding. I also seen the 906 would be the next step up and will allow for coding from what I read.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, some of the other functions I'd like to get out of include reading the DPF soot levels to name one. Ignoring the fact car coding is different from computer coding I'm fairly competent/qualified in a number of languages of code so I'm willing to learn car coding. I was hoping the machine could operate OBD2 from 1998-present.
My budget isn't necessarily limited bar the fact I'm not a mechanic whereas I'd not need the machine for my livelihood but at the same time I don't want cheap scrap that will be useless to me for future cars or projects🤣.
Thanks for reading, any suggestions or advice is appreciated!
Jack
For the money it really can't beat the auto you just have to decide what you want to pay and how far you want to go

Hey, thanks for the reply Scotty!
To put a limit on it, I'd say around $900 is what I could go to. Not a mechanic so don't need a 3k/4k machine!
The factor of coding would be a bonus, but not entirely essential. The UI on the Autel is excellent and well laid out. The subscription updates is also a great idea. At the minute I'm settled on the MK808TS as I think it provides the functionality I need. If I want to be able to program which machine should I be considering instead?
Thanks again,
Jack

Hello,
I seen that the MP808TS allows bidirectional control meaning will it allow me to perform coding functions? Should I look at the MP808TS over the MK808TS?
Thanks,
Jack
Want to invest in a diagnostic tool.

Did you read the diagnostic tool article in our FAQ?
Didn’t see apologies will give it a look now! Never had a chance to get one the time I made the older article due to other circumstances but will look now!
Thanks!
Hey Guys,
Want to invest in a diagnostic tool. Precisely something decent on the level of technician stuff as I’m a computer programmer by trade and have and use a VCDS. I just want something that will pretty much work on every vehicle and perform all or most functions.
I had set my sights on the Autel MK908 Pro 2 with the battery tester. I was happy with the layout and OS and appears to be a powerful machine. It has the J25xx device so can code Mercedes and BMW. I nearly have this machine bought but the only issue is the updates. I’ve heard stories that once the subscription ends that the tool is pretty much worthless! Not ideal as I don’t plan on updating it every year (I’m not a mechanic but do coding and diagnostics for others on the fly). The tool is around 1600 bucks so ideally would be wanting a tool to work after the subscription, albeit I can live without the online coding on modules for bmw and Mercedes if that’s all I lose access to.
So my current plan is to get the Autel MK908 Pro 2 if it suits my needs or can someone else recommend a better tool that doesn’t have the subscription stuff or is that part not true?
I know there’s other brands such as Launch, XTool, Snap on, and Otofix
Thanks!
Jack
