Hey Scotty,
a regular oil filter on a gasoline engine is about $10. Why does a paper filter for a diesel car cost upwards of $90? There is no way that can be justified, is there? Have I been getting hosed?
Usually maintenance of a diesel engine costs more than of a petrol one. Which cars do you have in mind?
Mine is a 2017 chevy cruze
Quick research revealed diesel ones also cost around 10 dollars (+/- few bucks). Where did you buy it?
The oil change places around town all say they cost around $90 and its just a paper filter. No screw on can filter. Where are you finding them cheaper?
Have you tried auto parts stores?
????
For the 1.6L diesel Cruze -
Yes i knew we were getting screwed! Even the Chevy dealers charged around that price cuz its diesel. Next time I’m bringing my own filter! Thank you all for your help!
What scumbags!! Charging 10 times the price of an OEM ACDelco filter..
Next time, why don't you learn to do it yourself and save all that money, aside from getting screwed without even dinner and a movie.
I live in an apartment and dont have what i need
I totally understand you. The thing with small maintenance items like oil change is all you need is a wrench set the size of a lunch box and a little plastic bucket to catch the oil. Don't need a garage full of tools to do stuff on your car. In the long run it will save you a lot of money. The most I've ever spent on tools for my car is a jack and jack stands, but all you need for oil is to lift the car. You can buy cheap plastic ramps from any auto store, just drive up onto the ramp and change the oil. Then throw the ramps in a closet and you don't have to use it again until the next oil change.
Pro tip: use the website the guy suggested (Rock Auto) for parts, also buy some blue paper towels and a small bottle of Fast Orange, helps clean up spilt oil on your hands. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty!
Ya rockauto is where i found the filters for super cheap.
Then find an honest mechanic and bring them your own oil and filter.
