A diesel powered 2.5LT Trailblazer 2013 model with full service history up to 2000km ago, has 129000km on dash is cranking and not starting. I am tempted to buy it voetstoets since it has everthing that looks right for me but i am looking assistance in Jhb for some1 who can at least tell me what the problem could be before i leave my money. The owner says they parked it while picking their kid at school and on coming back to start it again, it just cranks and wont fire up. What could be the challenge and who can assist me if i by any chance take it?

Take a look at “Why doesn’t my car crank or start” in the FAQ on the home page.  Conceptually, no-start on a diesel is a simpler problem than in a gas engine because there is no “spark” to troubleshoot.  Just “compression”, “fuel” and “air”.  But since I don’t think they sold those engines in North America, I doubt many commenters on this forum will have much insight.  My guess is a fuel pressure problem, but that’s only a guess.

  • An update, i went with mechanic/auto. he plugged the diagnostic machine and he tested and said from his study the suction control is not pushing fuel, maybe when it was shut off the suction control valve died while it was closed and when he wanted to start it, it doesnt and failed to open again. So he is saying he needs it to be at the garage for him to be able to access the valve given the position it is located at. If the valve is ok he will check the injector pump and worst case scenario he says the ECM. hence thats the feedback and the diagnostics outcome is attached. Maybe if any1 can advise me further, he says its a good buy, should i go ahead and purchase.
