Hi Scotty,
Can we assume that Diesel vehicles are not for city dtivings or short trips?
Can we assume that Diesel vehicles are not for city dtivings or short trips?
no we cannot.
Most of europe drives diesels around the city. Short trips too.
Sounds like nonsense.
@imperator I bought & drove a MB 240D in 1983. My car pals/friends called it "ET" (European Taxi).
What is the reasoning behind that assumption?
Bcoz the diesel injector get clogged up and diesel pump fails due to short trips around.
Diesel has more maintenance as diesel filter needs to be changed more often.

Why would "we" assume such a thing?
Bcoz the diesel injector get clogged up and diesel pump fails due to short trips around.
According to who?
In general they are made for long trips. Here people were buying them due fuel economy. Those who were driving them short distances all the time, had usually problems passing inspections when it came to measuring exaust gases, similar problems is with petrol engines too. In such case you made a long trip before inspection to pass. Some cities in Europe don't allow older diesels in their centres anymore
