DIY Replace Serpentine Belt

Topic starter

I started doing some of the maintenance and light repairs on my 2013 Camry myself a few years ago (e.g., oil changes, coolant drain and fill, replace sway bar links, replace door lock actuators). My serpentine belt is starting to show signs of dry rot. The videos on YouTube make it look manageable to replace without a lot of expertise.

Is replacing a serpentine belt something most people can DIY, or is it really something you should leave to a professional mechanic?

If you can do these you should be able to handle a serpentine belt. If I might suggest, take several pictures of the belt's path before changing it out. Inspect all pulleys for wear/damage while you have the belt off. Good luck!

It depends on the difficulty level on the particular model you're working with. I've always replaced them myself.

Get a breaker bar with a loooong handle to make it easier
