Do I need to carbon clean my HHR?

I've got a 2009 HHR LS with a 2.2L Chevy Colbalt engine in it, since Chevy just repurposed their engine and didn't make a new one haha. I can't find a straight answer on if my car uses direct injection or not so I can't decide if I should clean it. It's got a little less than 130,000 miles on it and is getting about 5 MPG less than it did when we bought it. I'd like, with this economy 😂, to get as much mileage out of my car as possible. I also want it to run as long as I can make it since it's a good car and the best car is the one you've got.

I don't think a 2009 model would have direct injection but you can visually check for port fuel injectors. If you see them, you don't have direct injection.

What do they look like? I'm not familiar with what I'd be looking for.

Look for this (photo from ebay listing of 2.2 fuel injector with fuel rail):

No since it does not have direct injection.

The engine in yours (2.2L LE8) uses port injection.  There were other versions of that 2.2L with direct injection but those were used in international markets.
