Hey scotty, i have a 2012 subaur impreza manual. So I had a lock smith come to my house to reprogram a key to my car for my new ignition lock assembly because it went bad and at first he couldn't do it. so he came back the next day and said I would have to put the old immobilizer ring on and so I did and he was able to program the key after a few attempts but now my car won't make ignite the spark plugs. I called my local subaru dealer they said that the ecu is locked up and it would take 1,500 dollors to reprogram because subarus has to do it and ship the ecu to California. I called around and found a local mechanic and he said if it was the ecu he could reprogram it. Idk what i should do idk if subaru is making this out to seem like a bigger job or should I trust the mechanic who says he can do it for about 160$(do they sell a tool for the ecu) or should I pull it to you I live in east TN hahaha and I have a toyota truck
A mechanic with proper scan tool can do it.
