Any thoughts on the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum V8s found in older Dodges, Rams and Jeeps?

The Magum V8 is a direct descendant of the 1964-vintage Chrysler "LA" V8 engine series, with updates designed by a team of Chrysler and ex-AMC engineers.

To an extent they can be viewed as traditional Chrysler V8 blocks and bottom ends with AMC-style cylinder heads.

That's the design aspect. As far as reliability, I dunno, my experience with Chrysler V8s is limited to 1960s and early 1970s models and those were quite good.

I had a 1998 Dakota I drove in Alaska for 3 yrs. had 72k on the motor when I bought it. Had the 5.2 V8 and I’ll tell you what that motor did it’s job very well but it LOVED fuel. People hate on Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, and rightfully so. But you’d be surprised that they actually use pretty decent motors for the most part. FCA motors actually have a failure rate of 1 in 85 which was above Ford and GM. It’s everything else they use that’s garbage.
