Does a 9th gen F-150 make a good drag truck?

Hello all! Since I have recently developed an interest in the art of drag racing, I am now looking to get a drag car as a project and started reviewing my options. I’m a Ford guy, and I found out that the fox body mustang is a popular choice, but the problem is that I like to be different, so I want to throw a curveball and build one out of a truck. I like the 9th gen f-150 because they’re  abundant, cheap, and made by Ford. I will probably swap in a stroked out 351 Windsor with upgraded cams. Can the rear end handle that much power? Will I have to upgrade anything else like the suspension?

If you want to add that much punch, I'd redo the suspension and for sure the rear end.

Any idea on what times you want to shoot for? 1/4 or 1/8 mile?

Thanks. For the suspension would some performance shocks and leaf springs do the trick? And to answer your question I'm looking to do a quarter mile in about 11-13 seconds.

For those times, you could probably get away with that. The reason guys use the Foxbody cars is because they are light and cheap to modify. Weight and traction will be your challenges.

Ok thanks man that helps a lot.

You're welcome!
