My vehicle is a 2021 Camry SE. I remember I read somewhere years ago that before putting a car in sport mode, the driver should drive it a about 15 minutes to make sure the engines and transmission are warmed up, and that driving in sport mode at cold startup can damage said parts.

Not just sport mode, driving pedal to the metal even in normal mode, if the engine & transmission haven’t reached operating temperature, can cause premature wear.
If I’m in a hurry to leave, I tend to feather the throttle until the temperature gauge rises or for the first 5-10 minutes.
