i have a 2001 honda crv and one or both front door lock actuators are going bad. prices range from $ 25.00 per unit to 180.00
my regular mechanic wants 1500. to fix both actuators with life time warrenties. I just spent a ton of money fixing the honda and want to cheap out. .... what brand is good and does it matter if I get the cheap parts (platics and probably chinese made) vs ones made of metal like honda and napa parts.

get good ones unless you want to be doing it again next year.
$1500 seems a bit ridiculous

I would not cheap out on the parts. Cheap parts don't last.
