Dot 3

Little off topic, I have a 5 ton electric log/wood splitter that was low in Hydraulic oil.

So I topped it off with Dot 3 brake fluid.

Is there a big difference? Should I be draining the Hydraulic oil and put in new oil?

Think I read wood splitters use 10w hydraulic oil for colder region. I'm a canuck.

Thank you in advance

I am not sure what fluid it say to use . Putting in new dot 3 into old dot 3 does not hurt.

Old dot 3 absorb water time and degrade so every two years it needs to be replaced.

Hy!

Brake fluid is agressive fluid and can destroy rubber seals/gaskets.
