Hi, Scotty. I have a 2005 BMW 330xi awd (E46) with 225,000 miles. It starts and runs great but every few years I seem to have a suspension spring “break”. I’ve never seen a part fatigue and break as often as these springs and it’s been going on since I got a 1995 e36. Do you know of any aftermarket brands that are heavy duty (needs to be since it’s awd) but don’t break as often?
I love BMW but some of their decisions are infuriating. I wouldn’t buy any series after the E46 because the repair costs are astronomical. Where I had an easy, cheap repair on a valve cover gasket (<$50) on my E46, the same repair would have cost around $1,000 on my 2010 E92. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back so I had to sell that car. My E46’s are very reliable and easy to repair and maintain. I have a trusted mechanic and friend but for most jobs, “I am the warranty” is a fact of life.
Congratulations on the website and the move. I also love the in-depth episodes you’ve done, they’re really fascinating. Keep up the good work!
