Easy fix if bought?

I saw a listing for a 5spd manual 2.2L inline 4 1994 Celica with 189k miles. The body and interior is in superb condition. All the seller says she needs is a new headlight and brake fluid change. The only major thing that sticks out is that it shifts smoothly both up and down to all gears but it won't link at 5th gear. Does it need some kind of minor fix or fluid change or do I have to buy a new transmission? I think I saw a whole '94 manual celica transmission for sale on ebay for aroun $650.

I guess this partially depends on how much the seller is asking for it....

Be weary of buying used transmissions especially off eBay and unless you can install it yourself, that's going to probably cost another $400-$500 to install at least, so about $1100+ for the trans + installation is my guess.  If you can get the car cheap enough, it might be OK but I would take it to a mechanic and get their opinion before buying it.  It most likely is a transmission problem and replacing the trans would probably fix the issue but it will ultimately come down to how cheap can you get the car.

Just get it checked out.  If it was that cheap to fix, part of me says the seller may have very well fixed it, but there could also be something else wrong that's not very obvious to the average person or a non-mechanic.

They want $2000 for her

If you're lucky it could just be a linkage problem but get it checked out by a good mechanic.
