So I was working on my car today and I decided to change my air filter, clean my throttle body and clean my battery terminals. While I was at it I wanted to clean my EGR and replace that stupid plastic plug that leaks oil with a new one and put a new gasket on my EGR but I couldn’t get to the bolts on my EGR. It’s like they put them there so you can’t get to it. I tried a 1/4” with a 12mm but I couldn’t get it to go straight on. I could get the socket on but I couldn’t get the extension in it. I’ve looked all over YouTube and didn’t see much helpful info on getting into the tight places. I’m thinking of getting a swivel joint to try to crack it and maybe an even thinner walled 12mm but I wanted to see what you guys thought. It’s got almost 200k on it and I know it’s the original one. I’m not tripping codes and my idle is ok but the main reason is to get to the black plug. I guess if all else fails, I can try to get to it when I gap my valves and change my valve cover, but if someone has a better idea that I can do before that I’m all ears!
merry Christmas and thanks!
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'd leave it. Can you imagine fixing a broken stub or bolt in that location? Very common when working on exhaust connected stuff for the fastners to break. Drilling them out when you can get to them is a pia (if done properly so a new bolt can go in without an insert).
edit And Merry Christmas to you too : )
Yeah after rethinking it, I’m not going to mess with it. It idles fine and I’m in a no smog area so I’ll just drive it til it dies lol.
Merry Christmas!
Big thumbs up and Merry Christmas : )
