Electric car "Idling" in shutdown highways

Hey Scotty, a comment that seems relevant - Imagine if those hundreds of cars that were stuck for over a day due to snow were all electric! People would have frozen when the power ran out (earlier than gas cars) and they would have had to recharge all those cars to get them out, taking at least an hour each car - a much bigger nightmare!

Tow trucks are the perfect compliment to electric cars.

I think EV’s are great for around (some) city where charging and infrastructure is available.

But for extreme weather like snow or heat, totally inefficient.

Bring a backup gas/diesel powered Generator to charge those batteries.

BTW electric cars are again another way to further the divide between the rich and poor. Can anyone say how many EV Charging stations are built on multi-dwelling densely populated locations that can only get Street Parking?

Agree that EV cars are just not a good choice for all driving needs. People were stuck for hours on the roads towards this ski resort near me and yeah those who weren't driving EVs were the lucky ones. Even a Tesla with a higher range to me is still only good/okay for driving around the city or at most the commute in a nice clean highway from work to home and vice versa. Making the whole car fleet EV is a dream to satisfy those who say we care about a clean environment but not think realistically.

I think this piece gives an idea of why EVs are not a great choice particularly in cold winter weather.
