Hi scotty i have a 96 firebird 3.8 i been sitting for 7 yrs trying to make it run again, mechanic took it and said the engine was seize had water in it. I park it 7yrs ago but was working, told him that somewhere the engine was leaking water i was putting water in the radiator every week back then. Ok question is can it seize up from just sitting and is it worth it to fix that engine mechanic is trying to make the pistons loose. Thanks feeling concern dont want to pour too much money in it.😐
It can and will seize up from sitting. Try squirting some PB Blaster into the cylinders and letting it soak in then, try turning the engine over by hand using a breaker bar and socket on the center bolt of the harmonic balancer. Good Luck!
1 more question so if they tow it but steering it to the shop wouldn't the piston move, by the way its a standard trans. They put it in neutral to take it, does the piston move or not just wondering
If it's in gear with the clutch engaged it will try to move the pistons. If it's in neutral, the pistons won't move.
