I AM LOOKING TO BUY A HANDICAP BUS IT IS A 6.0 DIESEL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT IS A 2009 FORD E350. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH. IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS BEING SOLD BY A PRIVATE PARTY. MY QUESTION IS HOW RELIABLE ARE THESE ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS. I WOULD PRETTY MUCH HAVE TO BUY THIS SIGHT UNSEEN AND HAVE IT DELIVERED SINCE I AM IN VIRGINIA AND HE IS IN NEW YORK. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!
Welcome to the Forum! Next time can you please not use caps lock for your entire post? It’s harder to follow and used when someone is shouting. Thank you.
hard to say without knowing the price and mileage, but it's nearly always a bad idea to buy vehicles without test driving them, or even seeing them! (so is SHOUTING AT US IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, by the way)
You're saying it looks like it is being sold by a private party (so you're not even sure about the seller), so I'm assuming you don't have much information about the car. First thing if it might be from a dealer then I definitely wouldn't consider it without at least seeing it. And on top of that it's just never a good idea to buy a used car without having it checked by a trusted mechanic.
Those rigs were made to eat mileage. However, people that have them tend to neglect maintenance because they figure it's a diesel, it'll be fine.
If you can't get it hands on checked by a trusted mechanic, I would pass.
I’m with FJC. The 6.0 is not Ford’s worst engine, but not their best effort either. I would not even consider it without getting an inspection from a diesel specialist. The potential for high-$ repairs on that rig is significant.
