1999 dodge Dakota sport 3.9 5 speed 4x4 engine swap . After swap I turned key and she cranked twice then it will no longer crank . It clicks at starter . I tested starter by removing it and applying power directly to starter and it engaged just like it should . So I installed it and tried again for it to not crank yet again. So I put breaker bar and socket on crankshaft (harmonic balancer ) and it took everything I had to get it to rotate . Once I got it to move I tried starting it again to no prevail. My question is why is it binding during rotation?

try removing the spark plugs and see if it turns over any easier

The starter may work when it's not under a load but fail to function properly when loaded.
