- Hello, I have a new 2022 Silverado 5.3L V8 with 800 miles. When should I do the 1st oil change? Should I do it at 1000 miles to get rid of any metal particles from the break in period? Or just change it at 5000 miles? Thanks.

What does your owner's manual tell you about any recommended break in? All answers to your question should be in there.

Congrats on the new purchase. Thats an old school thing, engines, metals, and oils are better than what they were decades ago. Most companies dont say its necessary anymore, and the normal 5-7k interval is fine right from the start. Though I dont see an early oil change hurting at all.
Subaru told me to do my first oil change at 6k (they recommend 6k intervals), but I did mine at around 3k anyway.
So it probably isn't necessary (unless its specified in your owners manual like Doc said) but also wouldnt hurt.
