I've got a 2006 Lexus IS 220D (Diesel) 60,000 miles.
Car has cut out twice now. I did a 2 hour journey the other day over 60 miles with no issue. Turned it off, back on again and it cut off as I was pulling out of the shop driveway. Thought I stalled (manual transmission). Then I turned it on today and idled it for 5 mins, then idled down and stalled. Turned it on again and it was ok for another 5 mins at idle down just under 1000 RPM.
I don't drive it much and the diesel is over 6 months old. Full tank. Coldest winter in the UK for 20 years or more. Haven't changed the fuel filters since I bought it 4 years ago. Thinking it might be gummy diesel.
Also can't remember from Scotty's videos what happens if you verfill your tank? Could the diesel have expanded now it's summer and done something?.
Also has a parasitic drain, but I keep taking the battery out and charging it. Battery was at 100% when it cut out the first time.
I'm thinking of getting rid of it if I can't solve this as when it cut out the first time it was on a busy road in the countryside and I had a family member in the car.
Thanks from replies.

Now. You have a diesel. Diesels you can't really let sit for a long time as diesel fuel gets sludgy. Now. I would get a fuel analysis kit and send some off to a lab. Alternatively if you have access to another vehicle go to a fuel station and purchase some diesel in a jug. Take another jug and a tube and drain the old diesel out and put the new diesel in. If that fixes it, you know you had bad fuel. If not then it's time to look into the fuel filters (though if I were you I would proactively change it now).
