Hello Scotty I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 4 door, so I had gotten a scan tool plugged it in and it showed a code for a cylinder 4 mis-fire so I got under the hood check the spark plug first and found that it had the wrong spark plug so I changed it to a oem spark plug that is meant for the car still showed a mis-fire after rechecking the scan tool so I checked the the spark plug wires and found that the wire was broken so I ordered a new cord replaced it and rechecked the scan tool and it showed that it now only mis- fired some of the time so I looked further into what might be causing it which is the coil pack that connects the wire to the pack to the spark plug and found that it had a liquid in it (blue in colour) so I took the coil pack out and tried to clean the connector that had the substance in it with some isopropyl alcohol got most of it off by doing that wasn’t able to get it all off though after doing that I reinstalled the part but it still showed a misfire so I have now ordered a new coil pack, haven’t installed it yet though do you think this will fix it?
A lot of things can cause a cylinder misfire. You checked the spark plug and ignition coil for cylinder 4 and since that didn't fix the problem, check the following.
- Wiring
- Sensors (Oxygen, throttle position and MAF)
- See if you are having any type of leak
- The fuel injectors
Thank Scotty for the advice and taking the time to read my concern and reply, I will check those too!! Will keep you updated.
I'm not Scotty but no problem.
