Started making this noise only at 3500 and now makes it all the time. Fixed an exhaust leak, no obvious damage to rockers, springs or timing chain guides. 120,000 miles, ecotec LE5, 2007 saturn sky
Sounds like possibly a rod knock. If you are a do it yourselfer like I am you can check out this video here to identify which cylinder is knocking if it's a rod knock https://youtu.be/pYleKxjl0uY

Thanks Marshall, I think. I used that method and confirmed cylinder one is knocking... great.
