Engine Oil and Gas Mileage

Hey everyone! I had a question about whether or not the brand of engine oil you use in a car makes a difference? The reason I'm asking this question is cause I saw a Mobil 1 0w-20 oil that says "Advanced Fuel Economy". As always thanks for the responses!

Have you read the "what oil should I use" article in our FAQ?

Brand?... not really.  But low viscosity (and 0W-20 is about as low as you get) does affect fuel consumption, which is why so many new cars are built to run on low viscosity oil.

There may be very tiny differences between engine oil brands, however in a real world scenario the differences are so small it is impossible to tell if their marketing claims are accurate.

As long as you are using the correct viscosity for your vehicle, any oil brand with the API donut, starburst and shield are at a minimum meeting the exact same standards.
