Engine Oil Leak

Topic starter

2004 Chevy Corvette, LS1, 180,000, auto. I have an engine oil leak and am having trouble trying to find it. The oil pan is covered with oil and it is a slow leak - maybe 10 drops per day. I took it to a garage and they think it is the oil sending unit, but it looks pretty dry - as far as I can see. Is there an easy way to find the leak or the most logical points. It looks like it is coming from half way down from the top and from the rear. (My college roommate was from North Tonawanda and we had an old Richardson cabin cruiser built in Tonawanda.)

Best way to be sure I’d wash the engine down and pick up some oil dye and run it with that( a uv light helps a lot once dye is put in

OK, I have never tried that. Thanks for the reply. The rear of the engine is virtually impossible to see, but I will give it a shot.

From what you described, best guess is rear main oil seal.

Ok...not sure why it downvoted your post when I clicked upvote, but then it upvoted it back to 0.....I'm sorry. I agree with you on this. 🙂

@Mod_Man, no worries.

I'm going to guess rear main seal as well as that is pretty common.

@R4nier is correct. A dye test would be very beneficial to run down exactly where your leak is. Not hard to do honestly. They sell kits on Amazon to do it.
