Taking Scotty's advice I advised my daughter to look for a Toyota Highlander - she was going to buy a Mitsubishi Outlander.
They bought a 2009 2.4 model imported from Japan with 93,000 kms.
Is this going to be the same engine that has the oil burning issue? Or was that problem limited to the US made 2.4 engines?
What is the best way to check out?

Don't worry about it. Yours is made in Japan. Besides that, I do not recall if Highlander was on the oil burners. Just one question for you: Why did you import a Highlander instead of buying from here?
Thanks for the reply. My daughter is in NZ and a lot of the cars there are imported from Japan second hand.
Great. It should be a good car for her. Way better than Outlander.
