Engine runs rough at startup then levels out smooth
Dear Scotty,
My mom has got an 2000 Olds Silhouette, 3.6 liter V6, automatic with 118,000 miles on it and I'm trying to help her figure out what's going on with it. Lately, especially on a cold start, but can do it other times too, when you try to start it, it runs very rough for a little bit then lines out all nice and smooth. It lines out faster if you keep the RPM's around 1,500. No CEL or engines have popped up on it and I don't know where to start at this point. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for anything you can suggest.
For anyone that might run across this post, I did finally find the problem to my original post. This is just an update. The vacuum line going into the PCV valve was cracked and had a major leak. I replaced the whole line and now it starts just fine.
Thanks for letting us know. That's the kind of thing you definitely need to look for when dealing with a decades-old vehicle.
Well that is no code so I change the fuel filter and pressure test the fuel pump. The computer doesn't know what the fuel pressure is and weak fuel pressure will do that.
