car smoked after boosting the battery

Hi,

I put my Mazda 3(2004 Sedan - 2.0 L ) car for Winter storage on 1st Dec 2022, however kept driving every 2 weeks for 30 mins(up until last week without any problems).

Today, when finally decided to move my car out of storage, it didn't start. Called Roadside assistance to have the battery boosted, didn't work.  The Roadside assistance guy tried another way to boost the battery(with body touch) and suddenly there was some smoke in the car.

He told to have the car towed as he suspects a short circuit. What shall i do now?

Shall i take the battery and get it checked(as it is still under warranty) before deciding to get the car towed to the garage..which will cost me few bucks..

I don't know how much if it is a short circuit?

Please help.

Thanks,

you should have a reputable independent mechanic look at it and tell you what he thinks.

it depends on what he finds. That's a question for him.

Ok. First time the battery was boosted normally and second time probably to give earth , he touched one terminal to car's body. I don't know much about it 🙂

The smoke was from the wiring, i believe..and after that the guy told me there is a short circuit which needs to be repaired.

Is it a good idea to take out the battery and get it checked before towing my car to the mechanic?

The smoke was from the wiring,

Please be specific and post photos.

Details are important when troubleshooting.

you can get it tested, sure.

The first thing I would do in your situation is find out where the smoke came from, and find the damaged wiring. Check fuses, etc.

Anyway, just get it to the mechanic and see what they say.
