I am interested in the new super duty with 7.3 gas engine. However trucks don't come with manual transmissions anymore. I currently own an 03 super duty with 5.4 engine and 5 speed.
Ford offers the 7.3 as a crate engine so my question is would I be better off swapping a new engine into my 03 or buying a new truck and having into converted into a manual transmission?

Trying to convert the transmission on a new truck is a bad idea because the computer modules are not programmed for it.
You have a higher chance of success swapping the engine on your 03. Crate engine does not mean new engine. You need to validate who rebuilt the crate engine, it's condition, and actual engine mileage. Many times these come from wrecked cars or junkyards.
