Hi, My 2015 acura ilx 2.0 (140,000 miles) is having steering issues. It will not turn in one direction or suddenly it pulls hard to the right. Took to the dealership. They are saying i need to replace the steering column and EPS unit ($3,000). The steering column looked fine however they said both have to be replaced because they couldn't warranty the EPS unit without replacing both. I plan to have my regular mechanic do the work. Can the eps unit be reprogrammed instead of replaced? If not can the EPS unit be replaced itself without the column?
Worry programming it isn't going to fix anything 99% of the time. The motor needs to be replaced and if you have a good mechanic you should be able to figure out how to replace just the motor and not the entire assembly
