Hey Scotty,

I am helping out my friend's mom who has a 2010 Mercedes R class diesel which has been a money pit and would break down every month. She doesn't like Japanese (despite me and my friend convincing her to get an MDX since the Lexus RX350L was too cramped compared to its rivals), Korean, and English cars. She likes German cars most of the time. based on this, I had to bring it down to these cars, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS, and BMW X7. She doesn't want to lease or finance her car. Which option would u guys pick as the most reliable overall?

I think the XC90 is the best choice of them all. Would u agree?

Also the Volvo Xc90 is Swedish,, but I wanted to put it in there because I figured why not

Volvo is your best bet. Although it is now Chinese made.

even though Volvo is owned by Chinese the North American models are still made in Europe

Not all of them though.

None of them are good, especially out of warranty. Even the Volvo XC90 is a big gamble.  There is no good choice, but see which one has the best final price including extended warranty options - she will need it.  YouTuber Savagegeese (good channel) bought a 2019 Volvo XC90 (CPO) - R design and fully loaded - for around $42,xxx and paid $10,000 more for the extended warranty which brings it to 10 years/999,999 miles (!!) and had to use it several times already (well worth it).

The BMW X7 is in my opinion the best, It has the nicest interior, best tech and drives the best and the inline 6 engine is amazing. German luxury SUVs are way more advanced than Japanese SUVs so you aren’t missing out on anything.

even though the powertrain is reliable, the rest of the stuff isn't though, that's why I was eying on the XC90 since its not complex german technology
