European oils

Topic starter

2019 VW V6 turbo suv. Don’t remember the model. Less than 20k on it as I remember (sons vehicle). Bought used.
So what is the story with “European oils”. My daughter in law took vehicle in for an oil change at a Valvoline changing station. They told her since it was a European vehicle it should have euro oil. Was a mechanic all my life ( construction/heavy) but never heard of such. She had them put it in then they called me asking. I started looking on internet but no straight answers. Is a good api rated synthetic ( Mobil 1 etc ) an acceptable alternative or is there really something to this. Thank you

Did you check in the owner's manual?

Also, I would avoid those quick change lube shops. They're just going to mess up your new SUV.

So what is the story with “European oils”.

Late-model European cars frequently call for different oil specifications than American or Asian vehicles.

I don't use Euro oil in my European car but being a 1997 model any leading brand of oil today is going to be better than what was available when it was new.
